Tuesday is dress day! Now that you have your theme, I know you’re itching to get over to the nearest bridal store and try, try, try. It can be really tempting to go into the store with hundreds of images from magazines you’ve been cutting up for years but the truth is it will make it worse. If you really aren’t sure about the style of dress you want, choose one image of each style you’re interested to try on and then narrow down the silhouette. Here are some simple guidelines for every body shape that can make your time easier and much more enjoyable.

If you have a larger chest and hips but a thin waist you have an hourglass figure (jealousssss). A lot of people will tell you that you can “wear anything” but that isn’t necessarily true especially when it comes to wedding gowns.

Don’t choose a gown with an Empire waist. Although it may hide your hips, it can make you look very disproportionate. Since your waist is the thinnest part of you, you need to accentuate it as best as you can! But also, don’t be afraid to try on a mermaid or trumpet style gown, it may surprise you!
Do try an a-line dress with a sweetheart neckline to show off all of your best assets. There are so many different styles of a-line dresses you surely won’t be bored at the salon, and you are sure to look fantastic on your wedding day. Look for designers like Alita Graham who makes fantastic a-line styles.

If you have a smaller top and a heavier bottom (stomach/hips) then you’re pear shaped. I’m pear shaped and I often get very discouraged when trying on dresses because I have a hard time fitting them over my hips, don’t let it get to you!

Don’twaste your time with sheath dresses or mermaid gowns. They will only accentuate your hips and make you look heavy when there are so many dresses out there can make you look thin!
accentuate the thinnest part of you. Empire-waist dresses will give the illusion of a smaller bottom half. Luckily, these dresses are very popular so there will be many options for you. Look for designers like Lazaro, he uses some of the most luxurious fabrics to really elevate the Empire silhouette.
If you’re petite with a very small frame, most women wish they were you! Honestly, almost all silhouettes will look fabulous on you!

choose a ball gown that wears you. It’s very easy to overwhelm your tiny figure with a skirt that is much wider then you are.
Do try on every style you like and decide what you believe is right for the theme of your wedding. Take advantage of the fact that you can finally get a dress altered any way you’d like, so don’t be afraid! Look for designers like Amsale or Romona Keveza.
