California Here We Come

Andrew and I love California and it’s no secret that we have (okay, I have) always wanted to move there. I came very, very close twice but didn’t quite get there. There’s just something about California that I often long for. Who knows, maybe we will end up there some day but for now we’ll take our visits to see Andrew’s brother and sister-in-law. For the next four days they will golf and we will shop… my kind of vacation. See you all when I get back!

This week was a bit of a whirlwind. With a lot going on personally/professionally it felt like it just flew by but stopping to admire the skyline, especially on Tuesday, was the highlight. The lights coming from the 9/11 site reminded me of the resilience of this country despite all odds.

Some other less important parts of my week were the crisp fall air right in time for a college football game at Giant’s Stadium; casual weekend outfits involving lots of light scarves, chambray, and pops of color; black and gray nails; and the opportunity to get to NYFW for the Amex special presentation of Rachel Zoe’s Spring 2013 line.

Holy {insert explitive here}, have you seen this inspiration board? A part of me is oozing with jealousy and desire to make one just like it and then my OCD says “really Nicole, you want to just stick stuff on the wall like that all willy nilly?”. Whatever. I may not need this type of inspiration board, but I need some kind. That got me thinking how amazing it would be to sit down at my desk and look up to all of the things that are inspiring me at the moment. Totally interactive and interchangeable… a collection of my “must haves” of that particular day/week/month. It’s time to get crafting… here are a couple ways I’m thinking of doing it:

Nicholas K: Spring 2013

I love layers, draping, and a color story so Nicholas K is absolutely perfect for me. The simple silhouettes are really what’s getting me… and layering them all on top of each other in similar tones of tan, camel, and brown or grays and olive greens is genius. I don’t typically like shorts with long sleeve tops but Nicholas K makes it look so right. Besides, if you show me a slouchy hood or beanie and I’m all in!

I’ve been blown away by all of the print in this years Spring 2013 collections so far. There are definitely stand out designers that pushed the limits and made some gorgeous pieces that will surely be on all of our must have lists. Maybe it’s the cutie son of hers or that she made this “Call Me Maybe” video, but Rebecca Minkoff really can do no wrong in my eyes. Spring 2013 obviously didn’t disappoint. I love the fresh, easy silhouettes paired with a more complex pattern throughout. This first look is killer.

Street style is always my favorite part of fashion week. Sure I wait with baited breath to watch videos of the runway shows, but it really interests me how the people attending the shows dress. It’s the best place to see everyone’s individual style in its greatest form. Here are some of my absolute favorites from this first week of NYFW. Stay tuned for a lot more, the weather is looking much better for week two!

Wisdom For Your Wednesday

Sometimes I feel like my own worst enemy. You know the whole, “there’s nothing holding me back but me” kind of thing. In my case it’s so true. Remember when I told you about my goal setting? This weekend my plan is to sit down and go through the list with a fine tooth comb. What are the things that mean the most to me and what is a realistic expectation of myself? Sometimes I get these crazy ideas in my head and I write them down only to find myself dissapointed when they never come to fruition. This weekend is going to change that for good… mark my words (and this is totally not one of those crazy ideas, I swear)!

Wedding Wednesday

Photographs are one of the most important aspects of our wedding. Since we have a while to plan (so that all of the ideas that have been running through my head all these years can come to fruition) I’ve been looking at images that really speak to me to show potential photographers. I want to make sure that someone can capture the mood of the wedding and our love for each other. We don’t want to see each other before the ceremony, so it’s extremely important for us to have those “first look” photos captured while the ceremony is taking place. Then of course there are the obligatory portraits that will happen during cocktail hour. With only an hour to get all of them in, we have to make sure to choose someone who really gets us. Here are the photos that are bringing me pretty darn close to tears this Wedding Wednesday.

FNO 2012

The weather report isn’t looking great for this Thursday, so my typical outfit prep must change. Schlepping around Soho in heels just won’t work this year so I’m preparing for the worst. How do you make an outfit for hailing cabs and store hopping in the pouring rain work for champagne and shopping once inside? My night so far includes Coach, Phillip Lim, Alice + Olivia, Stella McCartney, and Marc Jacobs so I’ll definately need these FNO staples to get me by.
